Teaching pupils democratic and liberal values in an easily understandable way is the aim of the organisation „GrundGesetzVerstehen e.V.“ . Rechtsanwalt Moritz Zimmermann is one of the young lawyers who are involved in the association on a voluntary basis. Together with a judge from Cologne, he visited an 8th grade class at Liebfrauenschule in Grefrath-Mülhausen on the Lower Rhine on 23 February 2024. In two double lessons, the focus was on freedom of opinion (Article 5 of the Basic Law) and the principle of equality (Article 3 of the Basic Law) and a wide range of questions that are already on the minds of young people: What is an opinion and how is it also protected in social media? When does unequal treatment become discrimination and why is it prohibited? „It's great to see how much the pupils take away from these lessons. You can achieve a lot with very little effort,“ says Zimmermann, who was released from work for the school visit. The law firm welcomes and supports the voluntary work of its employees.
