The state government in Brandenburg is now likely to increase the staffing ratio for childcare in crèches after all. This is provided for in the resolution passed by the Committee for Budget and Finance on 16 June 2025 (printed matter 8/1231). The Draft bill on the Budget Accompanying Act of 28 March 2025 (printed matter 8/746) initially provided for the cancellation of the planned increase in the staffing ratio in the crèche sector. However, the improvement in the staffing ratio will now only come into force on 1 January 2027 instead of 1 August 2025 as originally planned. The 3rd reading for this legislative procedure is scheduled for 20 June 2025. „In specialist circles, the planned cancellation of the increased staffing ratio for crèches had attracted massive criticism. With regard to compliance with the professional standards now recommended, the increase would have been urgently necessary as early as the next daycare year,“ says lawyer Franziska Wilke.
