The Greifswald Administrative Court has confirmed the rejection of a citizens' petition by the town of Sassnitz against the LNG terminal on the island of Rügen, which will be operated on its harbour site. The court justified its decision after the hearing on Tuesday by stating that the citizens' petition submitted lacked a cost recovery proposal. According to the court, the initiators had not quantified the expected costs that could arise for the city as a result of a successful petition, as required by the local constitution. This would have included loss of revenue and possible claims for damages that would have been threatened if the operation of the terminal had been stopped. The Administrative Court thus followed the arguments of lawyers Dr Dominik Lück and Dr Maximilian Dombert, who had already advised the city when the city council passed the resolution.
