New regulations for your packaging - compact and practice-orientated overview of the new EU packaging regulation (PPWR)

From 12 August 2026, new, binding regulations for packaging and packaging waste will come into force throughout the EU.

The new EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) is accompanied by extensive changes in the area of packaging, packaging materials and packaging waste. The regulation provides for new regulations on packaging design, recyclability, reusable systems and standardised labelling, among other things. The new extended producer responsibility applies. The regulation also provides for important innovations for e-commerce participants.  

Almost all economic operators who place packaging on the market within the EU are affected. It is therefore essential that companies address the requirements of the PPWR in good time. Producers, manufacturers, importers and retailers are therefore required to comprehensively review and optimise their packaging concepts, processes in the supply chain and compliance structures.
