Justice and administration are to become more digital. Dr Dominik Lück and Dr David Stadermann, judge at the Hamburg Administrative Court, discussed how lawyers can benefit from this in their collaboration at the German Lawyers„ Conference in Bielefeld on 7 June 2024. Prof. Dr Klaus Herrmann, Chairman of the North-East Administrative Law Working Group, moderated the event. It became clear that there is still room for improvement when it comes to digitalisation in practice. Lück and Stadermann agreed that hearings should be held digitally more often. Whether court hearings should take place digitally, however, depends on the constellation of the case, according to the two speakers. The importance of the oral hearing as the “climax of contentious proceedings" would be more clearly expressed in the courtroom. In order to make better use of the e-file, Lück and Stadermann would like to see further conceptual clarification. For example, it should be clarified what originality of documents means in the digital world.
