A police trainee from North Rhine-Westphalia was allowed to be dismissed from the service for sharing right-wing extremist and racist posts in a chat group. This has now been decided by the Münster Higher Administrative Court (OVG), confirming the judgement of the lower court (Ref.: 6 B 1231/24 of 21 May 2025). As the OVG now explained, the police trainee lacked the character suitability for the police service. Even good professional performance would not change this. Rather, he lacked emotional stability and self-control - indispensable qualities for the police service. This was the decisive reason for his dismissal. In this context, it did not matter whether the officer had extremist views.
