A service uniform may not be worn as a costume. This is the result of a decision by the Administrative Court (VG) Düsseldorf. The court thus confirmed the dismissal of a trainee inspector from her position as a civil servant on revocation due to doubts about her character suitability (Ref.: 2 L 2837/25 of 2 September 2025).

The prospective police officer had worn official clothing at a private theme party and participated in a mock arrest. Guests at the party had also recorded this on video. According to the court, this off-duty misconduct damaged the public image of the police. In addition, the press release states that „in the age of social media, this behaviour could easily become known beyond the circle of guests“. The dismissal was therefore lawful, according to the court.
