Another modern wind turbine has now been put into operation on a former Ruhrkohle AG (RAG) colliery site in Löhnen (North Rhine-Westphalia). Rechtsanwalt Dr Jan Thiele provided legal advice to the operating company Windenergie Voerde GmbH on this project. This is a joint venture between RAG Montan Immobilien GmbH and Stadtwerke Voerde.
The annual electricity production of the plant is estimated at 9.5 million kilowatt hours. This will save 6,400 tonnes of CO2 per year. The investment sum for this project is 5.6 million euros. Complex issues had to be clarified during the approval process, for example in connection with the development of the site or the technically challenging subsoil. Transporting the plant components was also a challenge. In addition, the authorisation was appealed to the Higher Administrative Court for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Federal Administrative Court - but without success. „It's great to see that additional energy from renewable sources is now being generated on the disused colliery site,“ says Thiele.
