The Federal Administrative Court has dismissed the complaints of two environmental associations against the first sea section of the connecting pipeline of the LNG terminal on Rügen (case no. 7 A 9.23 and 7 A 11.23 of 25 April 2024). According to the LNG Acceleration Act, the LNG pipeline to Lubmin was authorised without an environmental impact assessment, as there was a gas shortage at the time of the planning approval decision. According to the court, this still applies. It also considers the project to be compatible with the legal requirements for plant safety as well as water and nature conservation. The court ruled that climate protection concerns had been sufficiently taken into account when weighing up the project. The approximately 50-kilometre-long gas pipeline is now expected to go into operation in mid-May.
