Content of the event

Due to the decline in the birth rate, more and more crèche and daycare places remain unfilled in some regions. A number of local authorities are already planning to close daycare centres or reduce the number of places.
The decline in the number of children has been apparent for years, especially in the eastern German federal states. Falling child numbers therefore require adjustments in the area of early childhood care.

The current upheavals in the daycare centre landscape are unsettling not only for employees, but also for independent providers. This is because the falling birth rate ultimately jeopardises the financing of daycare places. There is therefore an urgent need for action on the part of local authorities and independent providers. Nevertheless, the top priority should be to retain teaching staff and continue to offer parents a high-quality daycare centre landscape.

This seminar provides information on how to deal with declining numbers of children and highlights the associated legal and financial consequences as well as the options available to local authorities and independent organisations.
